Beauty Is Not A Noun But A Feeling

beautiful

Elaine wrote a beautiful post on beauty and weight gain here. Moved, I responded by saying if the only measure of beauty is by weight, then it really is a crappy world.

And why the fuck does society give overweight girls a hard time more than the underweight ones when both are equally unhealthy?

For what it’s worth, I believe you are truly beautiful when you are:

  • Smart and creative
  • Standing up for what you believe in
  • Passionate about the things you do
  • Honest with yourself
  • Accepting of who you are
  • Celebrating your uniqueness
  • Embracing your flaws
  • Happy under your skin

Essentially, you don’t need another person to tell you how beautiful you are, and frankly the opinion of others will never matter as much as how you feel about yourself. Don’t let others define who you are.

If you get rejected because of how you look or how much you weigh, clearly, you are much better in different company, only because you deserve to be with people who don’t have cabbages for a brain.

But remember, you have to like yourself first before others like you too. If you feel beautiful inside, it will shine through to the outside.

You don’t need anybody’s consent to feel beautiful. Own it and it shall be yours.
