Yesterday, I went out to catch some sun. Work’s a little accommodating so I took the chance to get a haircut and have a massage. Going home, I caught up with my parents but before driving back, they told me they have to buy something and I stayed in the car and read.
I find that as long as there is a book with me, I’m never alone and I’ll never mind being alone. It’s an incredible feeling, diving into a book, devouring words, and losing any sense of time; it’s as if your feet lifts in the air the moment you open the pages and you’re transported to anywhere but here. There’s a magic about it, something similar with food and traveling, that’s really a beautiful thing.
Right now, I have several books that begs attention though I must admit I’m taking things slower now compared to last year as I’m keen on writing too and balancing both activities that interest me. I flipped Cloudy Atlas last week but when I got my hands on Dracula, I just cannot put it down. I’m a little more than halfway now and enjoying it to the last drop.
Others on queue are Frankenstein, A Room with a View, The Metamorphosis, and another classic by Ann Bronte but I forgot the title; I also have This is How you Lose her (thank you, Elaine), and Factotum, which I listed on my wishlist last year and now I can’t wait to get to it. There’s a mad zest inside me when I think of reading it actually.
Also the past days, I’ve been reading poetry, not a lot, but I’m appreciating them more and more. I love how they can say and not say things all at once. It’s phenomenal. I haven’t written one more after my bad poetry on the weekend but I feel I’m still inspired so we’ll see how it goes.
Have you been reading lately? Please don’t tell me you aren’t. I’ll never understand people who don’t read. I feel there is too much they are missing on, but I guess in the end, it’s their choice how much they want to limit themselves and I can only wish them better. Tell me if you want some .epubs that I can share! 🙂

meron akong isang book ngayon na hindi ko pa matapos-tapos basahin, it’s a literally book, mga prose & poems written in English by local author. tama ka at naka inspire talaga. hirap lang ako matapos kasi parang di ko maihiwalay (set aside) ung kwento ng author kumpara sa kanyang tula, hahaha, napagsasama ko. sa ngayon sinubukan ko siyang basahin pabalik (mula sa huling page patungo sa una, hahaha), parang counterflow lang, at yun ako’y muling nakaka-usad. sarap.
i’m totally in love with the idea na pabaligtad mo binasa. panalo. apir!
kasi naman, sa tuwing hahawakan ko, lagi na lang recap-recap- & recap just to refresh the thoughts and ideas, ayun, edi naisipan kong magsimula sa huli, hahahaha. at ako’y nakausad. hahaha.
great choice!

I really try to read anything when I have time. As far as my goodreads list is concerned, I’m currently reading these books (simulataneously. crazy I know!) since 2012: Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, Life of Pi, The Rise of Nine and Struck by Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal (this is a YA book written by Glee’s Chris Colfer) a few days ago. I’m halfway through the 1st two books, I finished reading the third one and I just started reading the last book a few days ago. As much as I want to just curl up and read, I just have no time in finishing a book unless I do drastic measures like camp out in a bookstore or something. But I have to agree with you, you’re missing a lot if you don’t read 🙂
good to know you’re tackling a bunch right now. i have read life of pi a couple of years ago and it has been a favorite of mine that year. i haven’t read today yet as i’m working. maybe i’ll resume with it tonight or tomorrow.
reading a lot! 🙂 i have tons of ebooks and actual books on my to-read pile. i wish that there are days that we are just mandated to finish at least one book a day for a week! *sigh* #bookloverproblems HAHA 🙂
i love these book lover problems. i have a pile myself and when i see it i somehow feel bad that i’m not getting to them fast enough!
very true! i have a friend who can go through more than 100 books a year, and i sincerely envy her 😦
100? wow. that’s some skill!
i know! she goes through several books a day. well, i guess she has the luxury of time 😦
perhaps and it’s a great thing. 🙂 right now i’m trying to stop myself from devouring books and figured i’d soak them in this time around.
Frankenstein, my all time fave book. 😉 Hope you enjoy it as well. 😉
is it? that’s lovely to know. i’m certain i’ll enjoy it and tell you all about it afterwards. i’m just about to finish dracula. what other classics have you read?
Moll Flanders (hmm, for me, it is “okay”), Catcher in the Rye (I love every line, every rant, read it for 6X? Haha.) Pride and Prejudice (pampatulog but good), Alice and Wonderland (Classics ba to? Pero masaya naman. Hehe.) Little Women (In fairness, I liked this book). Daddy Long Legs (Ay, hindi ata Classics to, pambata pero okay naman, “cute”) Di ko matandaan yung iba. Hehe.
As in, eto lang, asan pa yung ibang gawa niya??? Please enjoy. 🙂
Ang saya magbasa ngayong malamig no? Godfathe ang peg ko ngayon by Puzo. 😉
wow, that’s a lot of classics! i’m very happy to meet so many people who revel in books just as i do. do you want to get .epubs of other classics i have? i can forward them to you. frankenstein’s the first of shelley i’ll encounter too and if it be any good i hope not the last. i haven’t read godfather; good?
Godfather is ecstatic! Fantastic! Lunatic! Lahat na! If you read Millennium Trilogy, the pacing and thrill is comparable. Solid! 🙂 I’m not done with it yet, maybe 100 pages to go but it’s fun reading slowly because I do not want to end it yet. hahaha.
Thank you for the offer but sorry ha, I will decline muna. My eyes have some problem right now, cannot handle e-books, lumuluha lang siya uncontrollably pag ebook. But thank you thank you for the offer. That’s very nice of you. 🙂
Let me know once you are done with franken. 🙂 Wiiii! Excited much!
sounds like a good book. i just finished dracula. 🙂 i’ve no intention to read the millennium series, that’s the girl with the dragon tattoo books right? np, i always prefer paperbacks than ebooks myself.
You prefer classics more? 🙂
Yeah, me too, prefer the crisp pages than the sleek screen I guess. But ain’t nothing wrong with those gadgets, I just prefer the paperback.
i don’t prefer any genre though i’m interested in the classics right now. as long as it’s a good read then i’m in. i’m on the same boat with you regarding the gadgets. many times iBooks have saved my ass real nice!
Not been reading so much these past years, sadly, School and work are getting in the way. I work up to 10 PM.
How’s it goin’?
i guess there’s always come a time when you’ll just be too busy to get lost in a book. i hope you find the time to enjoy the finer things in life soon!
I read Dracula years ago and loved it. Currently reading A Room With A View. Born to read? Absolutely! 🙂
lovely to hear that. i’m loving dracula. i enjoy the narration unlike with other classics. cheers to people who are born to read! i’m looking forward to start on a room with a view, should be good.
You’re welcome and happy reading!
happy reading din 🙂
lalakasan ko na ang loob ko.. hindi pa ako nakakapag basa[i mean yung nagbabasa ng may pleasure hindi yung nagbabasa kasi napipilitan akong basahin kasi kailangan kong makatapos ng isang program or whatnot] nitong huling nakaraang araw. after nung The Time Keeper, nagsimula na akong magfocus sa thesis. 😀
pero nagbabasa ako… na parang hindi. HAHAHAHA! say whut? ang gulo ko.. 😆
okay lang yan, i think you just have to find that one book which will inspire you to read. if you keep on getting the wrong stuff that does nothing to create a spark within your mind then nothing will happen. i haven’t read the time keeper, si mitch albom ba yan?
Epistaxis. 😛
i think i saw that book in mibf last year. i understand, i hope you find the time to indulge soon. 🙂
salamat PM!!!!
okay, i’ll try to find it and thanks for sharing 🙂
marami pa PM 🙂 kaya lang, so little time… :)) matanong ko, fast reader ka?
i guess so when i’m committed to a book i don’t eead but devour. however, unlike last year, now i try to savor a book and stop myself from zooming through it.
Sometimes I don’t go out to have some fun with friends when they invite me. These are the times when I think books are more sensible a company than them. Sometimes I prefer to be alone with books. And my friends always say something like, “You miss a lot of fun in the world”. But the thing is, I am having fun and definitely enjoying the company of books. And no, they miss a lot of fun in the world.
i guess the best thing to do is strike a balance between the two for as much as it is fun to live within the pages of a book, it is better to live the best of the book in real time. but i get how you feel. there are days when all i want is to read and nothing else can satisfy me! i love seeing your posts btw, that you are into books right now. keep it up!
Yes. I am starting to love them 😀
there is so much to love. i feel time is never enough to indulge in books. do you read poetry as well?
no. not yet. it aches my head. haha
in the past i did not enjoy reading poetry either but once i discovered real nice ones, i’m hooked!
it’s really hard for me understanding poetry. but i really believe i wud come to like it. someday. heehee
there are good ones that aren’t as cryptic. i like if you come softly by audre lourde, a madrigal by shakespeare, and those by ee cummings. there are really nice ones out there and i wish you enjoy them soon.
Okay. I’m gonna check them out. and I’ll tell you if I that feel it’s the right time. ahhaa
okay, looking forward to hear what you have to say. 🙂
I used to tell my daughters when they were young that if they ever wanted to be anywhere but here, just grab a book. I told them it was the cheapest form of travel. It’s true:-) I’m never without a book. Good post!
thank you, it’s also my mother who got me started on books and i’m really young then! i thank mothers like you who open up a whole new world to us.
Awe! You’re a sweetheart!
