I See Dead People

black cat

Looking and seeing are two different things, don’t you agree? Normally, I don’t look unless I want to see. Someone has to make me want to look first before I turn my head; most times though, I do turn my head but still don’t look. πŸ˜†

It takes a lot to make me interested really. It may be because I’m used to boring, I don’t know. Also, I have this quirk. I don’t like looking people in the eye. I’m not comfortable with it and I’ve never really wanted to look people in the eye.

…Which is why it’s the most remarkable thing when I feel compelled to do it, better yet, more incredible when I enjoy doing it; doesn’t happen a lot too, which makes the experience more mind blowing.

For many people, I know it’s easy for them to look; in fact, they love it. They keep on looking and looking and looking. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean they are seeing. It’s crazy but people can look for ages and still miss what it is in front of them. I find that interesting. One time, I read that people only see what it is they know. It makes sense.

What color are your eyes btw? Mine is brown, pretty boring if you ask me, I never really thought about them much until a friend pointed out that my eyes are brown but they are really dark. I don’t know if that’s literally or what. πŸ˜† I also wear glasses, bad eyesight really, nearsighted with astigmatism. Boo.

So what have you seen today?

    • i guess you see stuff when you do that πŸ™‚ nice, i have glasses too. before i wore contact lenses but i developed astigmatism so i had to wear glasses.

  1. I’ve seen my teammates grandmother today, in their house. (This grandmother of hers is dead btw) I also agree with you. I guess we (people in general as I observe) when we ‘look’ at things its like something got our attention, once. But when we choose to see things, I think this is in a more deeper(?) way in the sense that we suddenly get more curious about it. (I don’t know if I made sense with what I said here!)

Anyway, don’t worry dear I feel you! I have eye issues too. In-born eye problem to be exact. I’ve been wearing specs for near-sighted and with astigmatism since Kindergarten. My goodness, are we soul sisters or something!? OMG. πŸ˜€

    • yes, it takes more to see. more motivation, more focus. i find that sometimes we look when we want something but we see when we are ready to get what we want. this just occurred to me now so i’m not sure how much sense i made. πŸ™‚ nice to know our similarity. we’ll grope our way to fun πŸ˜† why did you see your teammates granny?

      • Ahaha don’t worry you made sense. What you said actually made me think more πŸ™‚ I saw her accidentally today. While I was working in their living room. I usually have this kind of moments where I ‘see’ things— sixth sense kind of thing.

  2. Ack! I try my best to avoid eye contact every time I speak with someone not because I am full of shade but because duh anxiety, trust issues, okay okay shade, too! Seriously though, you see too much when you look a person in the eye; it is equal parts distracting and enticing (you see the problem now, yeah?) so avoid avoid avoid!

I am the girl with dead, uneven eyes. I really enjoyed this post, PM. Very thought provoking!

    • thanks, i imagined you’d say that. idk, i just don’t feel like i should look. if i want to see you then maybe i would but that doesn’t happen a lot of times. my friend said life’s like that sometimes. you just keep plodding along until someone captures your imagination and you look and see and before you know it something incredible’s happening. don’t worry, lady. when we meet i won’t mind if you don’t look at me. πŸ™‚

  3. “people only see what it is they know” i agree, but also believe that “people see what they like to see”.

after a day of sightseeing hubby and i would recap the day before going to bed. you’d be surprised to find out what i saw versus what he saw from the same scenery/landmark πŸ™‚

    • that’s true too. it’s interesting what registers with us. it may be a reflection of what we know too. looking and seeing rocks πŸ™‚

  4. I agree with you, in part ma’am. Many a person can look and look and look and never actually see. Take for instance a spider on your wall; you could look at the wall and never actually see the spider. Then, maybe a couple days later you actually do. As soon as you see something, it cannot be unseen and your eyes are naturally drawn to it.
However, I believe that looking people in the eye is something that, well, I don’t know if it’s mandatory, but I believe it is preferable in conversations. The person knows that they have your undivided attention, et al, and when you look into their eyes you can really see them for who they are. I wouldn’t exactly say the eyes ‘are the window to the soul’ as a certain cliche has noted in the past, but I would say that it allows for better communication practices. A bit like kissing; you can kiss with your eyes closed or when you’re looking around or over the person, but as soon as you kiss and look into a person’s eyes – now that is a whole different ball park. You can clearly tell if the person is enjoying it, whether they like you, etc.
Also Ms. PM, thought I might point out that it is a statistical fact that a great portion of the human species have brown eyes and women with brown eyes are often quite attractive (no, I am not being a saucy flirt – just tellin’ it how it is). Mine are hazel. Eye colour means nothing though – you still see the world the the way the world is regardless of your eye colour. But eyes are often a very attractive feature – their colour, their size, the shine that is produced from the diamond pupils on a cold winter’s night ah, extraordinary!
Well, I could talk about eyes all day long (as I am sure you can imagine ma’am) but I think after a while that would become weird. Really interesting post Ms. PM! πŸ˜€

    • thank you. hmm… someone has a thing with eyes it’s always funny when we want to unsee something, isn’t it? but you’re right, we can’t. that’s lovely, how you explained looking somebody in the eye. i know how it feels, in the rare occasions i do feel compelled to look. it’s amazing. hazel is a lighter shade of brown? it makes me think of nutella really, good stuff. i agree that eyes are attractive. oh now i’m thinking of someone’s eyes did you notice in some of my bad poetry posts the eyes appear a lot?

      • Yes, I have noticed that on at least one occasion now that you mention it. Perhaps I’m not the only one who’s a closet eye enthusiast. Also, thanks for following my other blog Ms. PM, it’s very sweet of you. πŸ˜€

        • i only get to know a few eyes though, i think that’s why i’m so taken with the ones i know. it’s a beautiful thing and it’s cool we share that, mr. childs. πŸ™‚ i want to savor your poetry too and i’ll get to enjoy it in awhile. my writing has taken a turn for the worst so inspiration must be sought.

          • So you wish to seek inspiration from me? I sincerely doubt I can inspire a person, but I do appreciate the sweet gesture. Or maybe I’m being overly pretentious? Also, you should never put yourself down Ms. PM. There are plenty of people in the world who will do that for you. You needn’t help them in destroying the person that you ought to be. Even if, hypothetically, one did happen to come upon a bad period when writing was like trying to survive in outer space without a suit, positivity should perhaps be maintained to ensure the return of efficacious productivity. Maybe I’m over thinking this. I do that from time to time. Shut up Derek! πŸ˜€

            • reading is always a source of inspiration, don’t you agree? thank you for the encouragement, i appreciate your thoughts. yes, it’s kind of a bad time now, my writing is constipated, but i’m trying to walk through it and still get shit done. πŸ™‚
